Flame Conference will feature innovation in fire-retardant technology

To continue to fight the loss of life and the devastation wrought by fire, numerous scientists worldwide are dedicated to improvement and innovation in the composition of fire-retardant materials.

Now in its 25th year, the "Recent Advances in Flame Retardancy of Polymeric Materials" conference provides a forum for global experts from both industry and academia to discuss the latest technological advancements in flame-retardant materials.

This annual event is hosted by BCC Research and will be held in Stamford, Connecticut, USA from May 19-21, 2014. It's designed for scientists and other technical experts and features more than 40 specialized sessions. On the day preceding the conference, a one-day course is available to provide an overview to industry newcomers.

Charles Wilkie, professor of polymer and organic chemistry at Marquette University, is the conference chair. During a recent discussion with BCC Research, Mr. Wilkie gave examples of several planned sessions.
  • Introductory sessions will focus on the current state of the industry and what will be needed in the future.
  • The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will talk about their program and about the toxicity of fire retardancy. Several industry participants also will be speaking about their new products and their responses to issues of toxicity.
  • There will be sessions on graphene chemistry, specific polymers, and evaluating equipment for fire retardancy.
Plenty of opportunity for networking with peers will be provided.
